"Peter Blade" Cover Release

Greetings, all!

It has been quite some time since I brought you all a Cover Reveal. So, I am ecstatic to announce the Cover Reveal for a story that I have been working on for some time ... "Peter Blade".
Without further ado, here you have it!

Title: Peter Blade
Author: Y. Correa
Genre: Psychological Drama
Release: October 31st, 2018
Available: All major book retailers
Blurb:

Autumn 1970, Manhattan, New York

“♫ Life gives you surprises but Surprises give you life, oh Lord ... ♪”

A single night can carry both contempt and horror.

The notorious Peter Blade is on the hunt … just like many nights before. Adhering to his father’s words, “You've got to get deep into the gut, that's how you'll be able to bleed the animal. It's the only way to get him clean ...” Peter ensures that every hooker he kills is bled to pristine flawlessness.

Dancing with the phantasms of a murky past and the reality of an ominous present, Peter Blade trades places with his victims for the foreboding remembrances which cometh after dark. This night is entrenched in the unexpected and Peter finds himself contending with life and death. From dusk to dawn, Peter Blade is inescapably haunted but to what end? Which could be worse, living the terror or dying by its hands?

Excerpt:

Having taken Maribel out of the house, Fausto wrapped his uncle’s dead body in plastic bags and dragged him to the garage. Carefully Fausto tore the front of the bags open guaranteeing that when pulled apart they would remain under the body. Meticulously he covered the remaining area of the room with more plastic, assiduously safeguarding that spatter would drip on the plastic and not the surface underneath. Finally, Fausto covered himself in plastic bags.
As is normal for most Puerto Rican men Juan was not a tall man, standing at about five-foot-six, but he was on the thick side. His plump belly was the only part of Juan’s body that protruded the bags.
Like a pig, Fausto mused.
And like a pig Fausto handled him.
First, tying Juan by the feet with rope Fausto managed to dangle him head down from a beam in the garage. Immediately, after having hung his uncle's lifeless body, Fausto grabbed a large bucket and placed it directly under the body. This was a trick he’d learned years before by Juan himself during the sparse times when Juan helped Fausto’s father kill pigs.
Reaching for a machete Fausto held it high and looked at it intently. The shine and shimmer jumped off the blade like stars sparkling in a dark night’s sky.
She is my mistress, Fausto considered.
Words could hardly express the fulfillment this entire procedure gave Fausto. It was something along the lines of heaven on earth and soulful satiation. A place where real met surreal and completeness was attained.
A tingle of jubilee- No … of keen and satisfying captivity … ran up and down Fausto’s spine as he began the painstaking process of butchering the meat.
A jab deep in the gut, pulled upwards; then a slit from ear to ear across the throat.
Fausto’s eyes varnished and coiled with enchantment as the thick, warm, red broth leaked. All at once the gushing sonorous of rushing fluids banged against the bottom of the bucket. As the stream grew lesser the sound lulled to a trickle, then a pitter-patter.
Dreamlike, all of it. But this was no dream.
It was precisely this that mesmerized Fausto—the fantastic manner of it all. Enthralled by the technique therein, the methodical words echoed in his head. Those words that would remain encrypted like a red-hot, cast-iron brand in his cerebral cortex, “It's the only way to get him clean ...”
In so doing, Fausto bled the body dry.
Removing the bucket aside then untying the rope, the body dropped to the ground. The flop sounded like a captured and dead baby whale plopping atop the firmament of a boat. Slippery, strident and heavy all at once.
Next was the severing process. With every hack and jolt of Juan’s body, Fausto did not flinch. His countenance remained unwavering, transfixed.

Saying "Bye Felicia!" to WordPress

Okay ... so ...
Here is the deal.

Maybe it's just me, but I have noticed a substantial increase in what WordPress will "no longer" do for free. And, in my own opinion, it's too damn much. I mean, if I wanted to PAY for EVERYTHING, than I would have gone with WordPress.ORG and not the free version of WordPress.
Funny enough, I think I have come full circle. Here is why:
I first started my writing/blogging venture utilizing Blogger but down the line opted to start using WordPress because it was "what was in". Plus, at that time, WordPress offered a lot of options that Blogger didn't and that included a wider range of readers.
Now though, simply put ...
THEY ARE DOING THE MOST!

And it's making me feel like that are trying to take advantage of the little people. Those struggling writers that can't even afford a gallon of milk but would be willing to make a sacrifice just to obtain some sort of exposure.
Nope! Not this chick!

I'm sure it has something to do with the growing popularity of WordPress, but still. Why are you now charging double digits, somethings triple, for things you provided for free just a year ago. Come the hell on, WordPress. I ain't no sucker.
Writers--unless their book has become a movie--are not rich. Shit, I sure as hell am not!
So ... with that said, here I am once more with Blogger. Good old, dependable Google. Simple to use and, guess what? YEP, you guessed it ... STILL FREE.
Unless of course you want to purchase a custom URL, which you'd have to pay for. But, that is something that is actually worth the money as well as reasonable.

At any rate, this is a PSA for all followers of Author Y. Correa (that's me):

BOOM, BABY!

So with that in mind, please, by all means, follow me on here!

Thanks, y'all!

Upcoming Book: "Lilith's Dominion"

As you guys know, I'm always working behind the scenes on different things.  One thing I've been working on as of late is a novelette called "Lilith's Dominion", my very first "strictly vampire" tale.

So, you're probably wondering, "Who is Lilith?"

collierlilith8x6According to midrashic literature, Adam's first wife was not Eve but a woman named Lilith, who was created in the first Genesis account. Only when Lilith rebelled against Adam did God create Eve, in the second account, as a replacement.

The idea of Lilith has always fascinated me, mostly because of the mythology. Some believe that she was the first vampire, others think she became a demon, while others still think that God just shot her down.

My story "Lilith's Dominion" explores the aspect of Lilith having become a vampire, as well as what happened after her condemnation.

vamipreFor your enjoyment, here is an excerpt.

It is believed that before the Genesis of the human age, Adam had a wife ... a first wife; Lilith.

Created from the same ground from which Adam was molded, Lilith proved to be a bit more than his subordinate.

She was his equal.

Legend has it that Lilith was strong willed, independent and unyielding. All of the things that Adam did not want in a wife.

Red hair, sensual curves and red-brown eyes, Lilith was voluptuousness in the form of a woman. Passion, ardent and burning vitality. Lilith considered herself Adam’s compeer in every way—second to none and nothing.

What Adam hated to admit was that Lilith was his weakness, his burning desire, and his fierce, iniquitous poison. As much as he wanted her, he also hated her. It was her authority that continually dominated him, and her lasciviousness that seduced him. He was less of a man when he was around her, yet he also could not feel more empowered.

Adam realized that his was an obsession with Lilith was a lecherous enthrallment and nothing more, for he could not love her. Neither could he be her master. This was the problem. Adam’s job was to be in control, to be the head. The leader of Lilith and all of their descendants. For this, the Creator had made him.

Yet, around her—Lilith—he was nothing more than a groveling, dribbling, insecure excuse for a man. She had him wrapped around her little finger, and this suited her just fine.

Adam, not so much.

This was not what the Creator had mandated. Not what he intended when making them both. He needed Adam—level headed and trustworthy—to be in charge. However, with the ever present seduction of Lilith, this wouldn't be possible.

Something must be done.

red_page_divider_by_cougar28-d4vppotSo, stay tuned for the upcoming release of "Lilith's Dominion" by yours truly, coming April 1st, 2016! Woot! Less than a month away!

Things For Authors

Hey there.

It's been a couple of days since I've been on here and written a fresh blog post. That is to say, write something that isn't post dated. LOL.

I've been bad about that lately. Most of what I've posted has been post dated material. I know, I know. I'm sorry.

Anywho, here is something hot off the press.

A couple of things, actually.

What's New with Y. Correa for 2016

minion helloHello! How goes it?

So, you're probably thinking that I have a shit ton of new things going on for the new year. Truth is, I don't. LOL :D

I have a few things happening, but that's about it. Just a few.

What is one of the new things I have going on?

The Earth 8-8-2 Series now has an official website where readers can go to learn more about the series and what's happening with it. It is NOT a Blog, but an actual website with information and fun about the series. Of course, it's brand new so there isn't much in the way of information. However, as the series grows, so will the site.

The best part is that you can feel free to leave a comment or even your review of "Earth 8-8-2: The Genesis Project", as well as any of the upcoming books right on the page.

Want to visit the page? Then just click the tab above (on the menu) or click ...

cooltext159085594929420So, what else is new?

Other than the diligent work on "Concordant Vibrancy 2: Vitality" I've also been plugging away at "Earth 8-8-2: Genesis' Rebellion" which is the 2nd installment of the Earth 8-8-2 series. I have a feeling that if I don't release that book this Spring, some of my fans will hunt me down. So, far be it from me to let them down. LOL

I also have a couple more things up my sleeve, but I'm taking things one day at a time so as to not overwhelm myself in the process. I do hope to have at least 3 books out by the end of this year, if all goes according to plan. Wish me luck.

Anywho ...

That's about it in regards to an update. Please, visit my new site and leave your feedback. Let me know what you think of it and what you think needs changing. If you've read "Earth 8-8-2" then leave your feedback on the book. I'd be highly appreciated.

Toodles!

My Steampunk Experience

Who Remembers the 2002 movie adaptation of H. G. Wells' story "The Time Machine"?

The-Time-Machine-2002This quickly became one of my favorite time travel movies. My two top favorites are the "Back to the Future" trilogy, followed by "The Time Traveler's Wife", which was also based on a book. What did I love so much about "The Time Machine" (the movie)? It was the underlined suggestion of Steampunk.

Well, the 2002 blockbuster movie was loosely based on H.G. Wells' 1895 novel by the same name. Which in that day was a contemporary Science Fiction novel.

TimemachinebookAmazing how things change.

However today, it's considered a classic science fiction novel. It has a Victorian Era feel, which is why I correlate it with Steampunk since Steampunk, as a whole, is somewhat based on an alternate earth where the Victorian Era never came to an end, and all things were still powered by steam rather than advanced technology. There is also the assumption that life would differ drastically from what we know and love today. Fashion would be different, and society would be dissimilar to what it is today.

The H.G. Wells novel has been reinvented throughout the years just adapt it to modern society.

Here are some of the newer covers, of the same story.

Time Machine Collage

PS: Yes, I have read the novel as well, in case you are wondering. LOL :D

Why do I bring all of this up? Because this was my very first experience in anything that could be considered Steampunk.

SP.ArtPerhaps it's my love for sci-fi, science and history that attract me to Steampunk. Possibly it's because in essence Steampunk is a combination of all of those elements. But, funny enough I'd never written a story about it. I suppose that has something to do with me thinking that I couldn't do the genre justice.

Recently, that changed.

divider

So, the Vice President of All Authors Publishing House came up with the idea of an Anthology that would feature our published authors. The aim of this anthology was to answer one simple question:

Would/could the handsome man ever fall for the ordinary/awkward woman?

Handsome Guy and Ugly GirlWell, I thought, isn't that a great question?

And what should cross my mind? Yup, you got it ...

thinkingYou know what I've never written? A Steampunk? Hmm, I wonder if I can pull it off? Can I answer the question AND turn it into a Steampunk story? Hell yeah, I can! I'm the epitome of multi-genre. Why couldn't I mix Steampunk with Romance and Futuristic Science Fiction? If H.G. Wells did it, why can't I? Pfff! Piece of cake!

Ooooor, not so much!

Turns out, it was one of the hardest things I'd ever done. Ironically enough, as much as I love the genre, I found it incredibly hard to produce a story.

You know what? Thank heavens for people that believe in you!

When I'd gotten to the end of my ropes and was just about ready to toss the story out the window, my bestie stepped in and said "Let me take a look at that." What I love the most about my bestie is that she gives it to me straight all the time, just like she knows I'd do for her.

She said, "Jazz, I see what you're going for. I like the idea ... but this isn't your best work. You can do better. Just put a little 'Jazz' in it." Basically, she told me I was trying too hard to make it fit into some Steampunk mold and that I wasn't letting the story flow like I normally would. It was those words that changed it all.

"You know what bestie, you're right. I just have to be me and the story will come together." :D

I am happy to announce that from that conversation "The Steam of Opposites" was born. My short story contribution to "Crackles of the Heart: Divergent Ink Book One", coming soon.

SP.loveHere is the Mini-Blurb:

Steampunk Earth, set in the distant future. When an ambitious city guy meets a carefree country lady, what starts out as a getaway to finish an important project turns into a interesting journey. Steam intersects and hearts collide in “The Steam of Opposites”.

And, just to entice your imagination, here is a small excerpt.

Steampunk Earth 2075

The first thing Ryu heard were the spindles and gears of his clock-like mechanism as it crashed against the pavement.
“Damn it!” he exclaimed. The redundancy of the inescapable was starting to get to him. He had to get it right. It was imperative that this device work properly, after all, the Mayor was waiting on it. Finally exhausted with the attempt of perpetuating an experiment that simply would not work, he got to his feet, stomped across the room, grabbed his cane, hat and jacket then marched out. A quick walk around town would certainly help his exasperated mind.

A man like Ryu was hard to come across in these times. He was not only handsome, but also an entrepreneur, gentleman and inventor. The crème de la crème, as far as bachelors were concerned. Tall, dark and handsome. Intelligence was just a plus.

Ryu’s current assignment was an Analogue Data Processing Mainframe—a computer, as it was called in some places—for the Mayor, who needed it for whatever reason. Ryu did not know, and frankly did not care, so long as his payment was assured. However, with the Mayor as his client, imbursement was a given. The dilemma was the actualization of the project.
Opening the door and stepping outside, Ryu took a moment to look around. Everyday seemed to be exactly the same as the last. Hover cogwagons which drifted on sprockets and were powered by steam zoomed past—dark gray smoke spitting out of their exhaust pipes. Buildings so tall that the human eye could scarcely see the tops, emitted murky fumes from somewhere above, far past ocular perception. This caused the blue sky to tinge with gray hazy waves.

Like a dirty ocean, Ryu considered.

Women and men strutted past the busy streets, some hand in hand, wearing their best apparel; Victorian yet modern. It was an amazing mixture of past and present. The dark tones of their lavishly embellished garments were combined with the smooth texture of modern day latex. A formula created to cool down the body during the heat and warm it during the cold, yet keep society conservative and properly covered.
Ryu considered taking in a huge breath of fresh air, then realized that there was no such thing and opted against it. Looking from left to right, he slowly proceeded down the stairs to the sidewalk which was covered in muck. Ryu shook his head in disappointment. Not only did he have to live with the pestilence in the stratosphere, but he also had to walk in it.

Ridiculous, he thought.

The city life had become something of an inconvenience. He longed for the peaceful ambiance of the country. Momentarily Ryu considered phoning his Aunt Trudy and alerting her of his arrival, then remember her pesky cats—all fifteen of them—and decided that it might not be such a good idea.
Maybe a Bed and Breakfast, he thought. “Yes, indeed. That sounds like a marvelous idea.” he said to himself, then looked around to see if anyone heard him.
It was at that moment when Ryu knew if he took a hiatus to the country there would be a high probability that he would finish his undertaking. The tranquility was certain to ease his rankled state of mind. “Yes, yes, I think I shall.”
As he strolled through the bustling thoroughfare, he mentally planned his impending trip … itinerary and what have you.

dividerThis story and many other great ones will be included in "Crackles of the Heart: Divergent Ink Book One", so keep an eye out for it! It's gonna be grand. We're going to have contributions from:

Queen of Spades

Synful Desire

C. Desert Rose

Adonis Mann

Last and certainly not least, Da'Kharta Rising

While my story may not be the likes of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine" I'm certainly proud of the final outcome.

Until next time!

All Authors Autism Awareness Fundraiser: Join the Cause!

What some people are not aware of is that April is the

National Autism Awareness Month.

81058-April-Is-Autism-Awareness-Month

What is National Autism Awareness Month?

Autism Awareness Month is a time to educate your community about autism. It's a month designated to spreading autism awareness in what ever way possible and to promote inclusion, understanding and acceptance in the community and beyond.

autism-awareness-ribbon-story

Now, why am I bring this up, you might ask?

Some people don't know this about me, but Autism is something that is near and dear to my heart. My youngest son, Gino, is Autistic. Here is a picture of he and I:

IMG_20141205_162731

Unbeknownst to him, he is my angel... my everything. He's my hero and so much more. Many times people approach me and give me praise for being such a, as they put it, "strong, and determined single mother, while having a child with special needs" they go on to say that I'm "one tough cookie" and that "they don't know how I do it".

My secret? My son!

Only when you are a special needs parent do you learn that if it weren't for your child, you wouldn't have made it this far. Let me explain ...

bitmoji-1820355618

Gino, is my hero. "Why?", you might ask. The answer, as complex as it might seem to others, is incredibly easy to me.

Since the day he was born, he has had no relief from a condition that hinders him in many ways; mentally, physically, emotionally.

There are times that he simply cannot understand certain things, some things he cannot eat—not because he doesn't want to but because he truly cannot, due to texture and things of the sort. Often, he cannot understand his emotions, let alone someone else's. He didn't speak until he was 7 years old, and with difficultly. And now, while he can hold a conversation, it's excessively limited. Restricted to the very few things that he can understand and process.

When he is in any pain at all, of any kind (broken bones included), he cannot express it. He doesn't know how. So, he sits there and endures it, because it's all he knows how to do.

When he is confused, he cannot tell me why, nor can he ask me to explain because he doesn't know how to. When he does something "wrong" many times over, he doesn't even realize that he's done it.

Tantrums come, but only because he has no other means of expressing his frustrations.

He is socially unaware and inept, not by choice but be default, due to the Autism. He walks around all day long in his own little world, and needs to be assisted with EVERYTHING he does—from getting dressed, to eating, to simply tasks such as going to the bathroom. He needs to led by the hand in everything that he does.

On top of this all, he was also born legally blind. My poor baby cannot see even 5 inches in front of him without his glasses. Due to his Autism, and the fact that he couldn't express his needs, I didn't find this out until he was 2 years old. He recognized us (his father, siblings and I) by our voices.

Autism is a condition that is hard to live with.

But, you know what?

He does that day in and day out, without complain or remorse, and even more than that, HE IS HAPPY! He is so, so happy! He makes everyone he comes across smile and laugh. He brightens up a room whenever he walks in it. People instantly fall in love with him.

How do I know this? Because every single day I hear him laugh out loud, smile as though nothing is wrong with the world. People approach me just to tell me what a love he is, and how amazing he is. He gives me love like no one ever has, and receives unconditional love it in return without complaint or question.

He smiles, he laughs, he is always happy. Always! Even at his lowest moments, he's happy.

XrlQl0J

How does a person with so many limitations live so happily? How can they? I can't fathom it, yet I ADMIRE IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY!

When I see him struggle, when I see him fighting to survive, yet doing it as though it is as natural as breathing, I can barely contain the tears. He doesn't know any other way, this is his life, and he's accepted it.

Those are the reasons why he's my hero!

Never in my life had I admired and loved someone more, until the day he was born. He carries my heart in his hands every single day and doesn't even know it. But, do you know what? He carries it with care, and I wouldn't trust anyone else with it as much as I trust my little angel.

1979757_601740573250351_1460911392_n

Yes, it's been hard for me. OF COURSE, it's been hard for me. But, how dare I compare my hardship with his?! There isn't any compare. Not in the least.

Excerpt:

“Girl, I can’t believe he did that shit!”
Sabrina was now on the phone with her friend, Rachel. This day was one of the worst days of her life. She couldn’t believe she had gotten fired and the behavior of Mr. Torrance. He was using his personal feelings to try and justify this decision. The thing that pissed her off the most was that Veronica had set out to ruin her.
“Yeah, I can’t believe it either. Especially Veronica. The bitch had me on tape! I couldn’t say shit to defend myself!”
“So Sabrina, what are you gonna do?”
“Find another job; what else?”
“I mean, do you have enough in your savings to cover the rent? I know the place you are in now is hella expensive.”
“I got enough back in my savings for another four months or so, but after that, I’m going to have to find a new place to live.”
“Well love, you can always move here.”
She and Rachel had talked about this before. Sabrina knew that Rachel had feelings that went beyond friendship. As much as she loved Rachel as a friend, she didn’t have feelings for Rachel that extended past that point. This was why she would usually reject Rachel’s offers for help.
However, her back was up against the wall.
She knew it wouldn’t take long before word got back to her father, if it hadn’t already. Her father would not be pleased, since he pulled some major strings for her to work at Joynt Enterprises. It would hurt her greatly if her father’s business got negatively impacted due to her fallout with Mr. Torrance. She didn’t know if she’d be able to face him or if she could live with her father, given the circumstances.

Things that #IJustCant (#ICantEven)

Alright ... venting session in progress.

af15

I just cannot FATHOM why some people do the stupid shit that they do.

I swear, it feels like I have a new tale to tell about author stupidity ... EVERY! SINGLE! DAY!

And you know what bothers me the most? It's the fact that at heart, I am an author advocate. But some shit, I simply cannot advocate. Blatant stupidity is one of them.

Another thing that bothers me is that some people would argue that what I'm about to tell you is a isolated incident. Truth is, it's not! I see shit like this more and more every day.

It's just adding to my disenchantment with Social Media. Yet, I find myself between a rock and a hard place, because of my line of work. I work with authors. So, it's not like I can just retire from Social Media altogether. I sort of have to sit there and see the absurdity, unfortunately.

I suppose I should say something before I go on.

I'm the first person to understand mental weakness and mental illness. Shit, I've been exposed to it my entire life. Even then, that makes no excuse for shameless idiocy.

So there was one person whom I network with on Facebook and such, and inclusively have advocated for in the past, who yesterday put up a post on Facebook. It read:

"OMG I can't believe it. I'm pregnant. I'm so happy."

(Or something along those line. I can't remember it verbatim.)

Immediately the congratulatory comments came pouring it. Along with these congratulatory comments came her responses which were a combination of "thank you's", "I'm so surprised", "I can't believe it myself" and "It's a miracle because my husband had a vasectomy".

Truth be told when I saw that last comment, my first thought was "Maury Show, here she comes." but that's besides the point.

I fell prey to this post, since I consider pregnancy a big deal, and immediately congratulated her.

Next thing I know, this morning, she writes another Facebook post in which she stated that the "pregnancy post" was a lie. That she just wrote it because she got "tired of being ignored" on Facebook and was "looking for attention".

My reaction ...?

I mean ...

Aria-Montgomery-Are-You-Serious-GifLets look at the facts, shall we?

  1. If you're THAT starving for attention, then you need to reconsider your life.

  2. Do you realize how many people out there in this world really do want to have children and can't?!

  3. If you expect your career as an author to take off after this (and you were struggling to begin with) then you got another thing coming.

  4. This is a highly offensive thing to say and do.

  5. Now you expect people to just say "Oh So-and-so, it's okay. We forgive you." ... Um, how about? NOPE!

I'm over here like ...

Lady, we authors have a hard enough time as it is for CRAZY ASS FOLK LIKE YOURSELF to be doing ridiculous shit like that.

No, but I'm so serious. People like this are ruining the market. I'm continually flabbergasted at the lack of etiquette, common sense, gratitude and respect (self and otherwise). It's making me question my career path.

I established All Authors to be all inclusive. Do you mean to tell me that I now have to preform background checks on people because of the amount of crazy that I'm encountering on a daily basis?

Because, the problem is that their crazy reflects badly on the label that I'm trying to create.
