Tomorrow Is Take 2 ...

... because tomorrow marks the official release of "Earth 8-8-2: Genesis' Rebellion".

bronze_beaded_divider___design_png_by_jssanda-d6arclnYou ever have the one book you've written that makes you realize that you can care less how many copies sell, as long as people to read it, even if that means having to give it away for free?

Now, that's not to say that I want to give it away for free, but I REALLY WOULD love for people to read it. However, that would include them having to read the first book first.

Honestly, I'm getting to the point where I can barely wait to finish the entire saga so that I can put together a box set. That's gonna be awesome!

box of books_0I mean, there is so much that I would love to tell the public about this collection, but I think it's best covered in the "Guest Posts" that I've been featured in this past week. Here we go ...

Author Synful Desire asked me about the Earth 8-8-2 Saga Cover Concept. Here is what we talked about:

Let's Talk Thursday: Cover Concept Earth 8-8-2 Saga

Da'Kharta Rising asked me a great question about Character Creations. Here is what we discussed:

Sci-Fi Mayhem #Earth882Saga

Queen of Spades has a question herself. Here is what we chatted about:

An Out of this World Guest Post

Author C. Desert Rose wanted to know who were my favorite characters in the saga.

Blog Tour Swagg! Woot!

Finally, Adonis Mann asked about Genesis' DNA, here:

bronze_beaded_divider___design_png_by_jssanda-d6arclnNow ... with all of that said, let me share an excerpt of the work with you.

On second thought, I'll share an excerpt of books 1 AND 2.

Enjoy!

cooltext182350479929388Earth 8-8-2: The Genesis Project

25322275Chapter 2

One Week Later

Days passed and during that time Dr. Scott accelerated the growth of the being ... his child.

He watched, tinkered, tampered and analyzed some more. He mused at the growth of the creature. It was developing his reddish skin—something common between 8-8-2 Earthlings—but that was all that was noticeable at the moment.

Curled in a fetal position, the expedited, induced fetus, whom was the size of a three month old blastula looked like nothing more than a red kidney bean, with tiny limbs just now beginning to grow.

Dr. Scott had witnessed several things—so many things in his lifetime—but nothing quite like this, ever. This child, growing in this glass container, was too an Earthling, but none like any other earthling had seen before. He was a new species, a new creation, a new form of life.

The genesis of a new age.

Two Months Later

The fetus was at this juncture accelerated to his second trimester. His ... no, not his, but hers ... her features were now somewhat visible.

She still contained her father's reddish skin and was beginning to grow wispy strands of his mahogany hair. That too, the semblance of an 8-8-2 Earthling. She had once or twice opened her eyes, and as opposed to having his yellow orbs, hers were different. Very different.

Pitch black irises, as dark as the chasm of emptiness. Bright red corneas, as vibrant as a bonfire ablaze. Deep yellow sclera; the sun at its highest point.

So different, he considered.

Four Months Later

The child was now in her third trimester. Ready for extraction.

Dr. Scott could not help the fact that he'd grown attached to the child, and in so doing he'd selected a name for her. Genesis; for she was the beginning of a new species—a new, marvelous, wondrous variety of earthling.

Beep... beep... beep.

This time the chiming sounded different. It wasn't the monotonous bleeping of a boring machine. It was the incessant alert of impending serendipity the likes of which had no compare.

Genesis was to be 'born'!

IMG_0373Chapter 2

The beeping sound which resounded amidst the silence of the scarcely occupied room did nothing to alert anyone, for those there were already at attention. Endeavors such as these were bound to have an audience.

Three sets of eyes peered into the mammoth glass, liquid filled container that housed Project Armageddon (Code Name: Experiment Eight-eight-two-dash-five-point-one); General Townsen’s, Doctor Theodor Belt’s and Acinom Zenit’s. The tank: a matrix created to nourish and sustain Project Armageddon—grow and strengthen it to its fullest capacity.

Acinom pushed a button then flipped a switch on the rotundus supercomputer which covered over half the wall and the sound ceased.

“Acinom,” called Doctor Belt, his voice raised, as though she were in another room, “check his pulse.” Acinom’s eyes shrank to slivers, the disdain of being yelled at pestered her.

“Yes, Doctor.” Acinom reached over, pushing another button which caused a spectacle of waves and numbers to appear on the computer screen in front of them. “Normal, Doctor.” she concluded.

“Good, good.” responded the happy Doctor.

Before any more hoopla could transpire, General Townsen trumped the tangible glee in the room, his voice filled with animosity. “How much longer before Experiment Eight-eight-two-dash-five-point-one is activated?” the dryness in his tone leaving much to be desired. Acinom frowned then squinted; chomping at the bit to put him in his place, although that was not necessarily her place.

Doctor Belt interjected, “Well Commander,” he walked towards the titanic, rectangular, transparent glass cistern which had a wide array of tubes and mechanisms affixed to it, and placed his hand on the glass, as though attempting to touch his creation. “It shouldn’t be much longer.” The gleam in Doctor Belt’s eyes was akin to a maniacal scientist basking in the glory of his creation—mad and euphoric. Doctor Belt pressed his forehead to the glass and shut his eyes, then released a long sigh of gratification.

Inside the immense vessel, attached to innumerable contraptions, floated the inanimate body of being liken to an Earth 8-8-2 man, but not.

General Townsen huffed his satisfaction, turned, pivoting like a soldier about to march, and left the room.

bronze_beaded_divider___design_png_by_jssanda-d6arclnSo, STAY TUNED for tomorrow's big event! THE RELEASE OF "EARTH 8-8-2: GENESIS' REBELLION".

Me, controversial? * shocked face *

ShockedFace

No, I lie.

I'm not surprised.

I am highly controversial at times.

truth

Suffice it to say that I'm not very surprised that some people deem me controversial. Particularly, when it comes to my writing ventures.

Some time ago I was asked:

"Do you think that any of your sci-fi mashups stir up controversy? If so, which ones and in what way?"

Simple answer? Yes, all of them to one degree or another.

Not so simple answer?

hand-extended

I think the best plan of action today would be to address just one of them—the most dynamic one—my pride and joy.

The story of mine that is pretty heavy in the Controversy Department isn't even published yet. As a matter of fact, I've been trying to write it for a few years now and haven't even completed it. But, I'm perfectly okay with that as the story is replete with a tangled web of information. So much in fact, that my mind looks a little something like this when I think about it:

Untitled

And that's ↑ an understatement!

I mean the amount of thoughts that cross my mind due to the complexity of this story is a kin to having Steven Moffat, Stephen King and Stephen Hawking (Side Note: I didn't realize that I had that many Steve's that I looked up to. LOL) inside of my head all at the same time.

(Other Side Note: THAT would be a dream come true to me! #LoveMeSomeSteves)

You know what? I just realized that I haven't even shared the title of the work with you all. Just goes to show how complex the story is. LOL :D

It is "Genesis Ellipse ...".

So, let me tell you a little bit about the controversial aspect of it.

ready

Reason Number One

Religion, religion!

As most of you know I was brought up Wester Christian. "Genesis Ellipse ..." bends the basic fundamentals of that which I was taught to accept and uphold. It plays with the concept that all religions are tied into one another and that some of the information in the Bible has either been misconstrued somehow or is blatantly incorrect altogether.

Needless to say, the church in which I was brought up might not be very happy with my interpretation of the story.

Reason Number Two

Is science really fact or merely the translation/perception we get from an altered reality?

I toy with the idea that science as we know it today may stem from religion and may even be incorrect as a whole.

Well, those hardcore science buffs may not be all too happy with that.

Reason Number Three

"What If" is the name of the game.

I've come to realize that most readers today want everything spelled out for them. In "Genesis Ellipse ..." the reader is basically forced to use his/her imagination. Many times to "fill in the blanks". And do you know what? That's exactly the point.

So, I can almost promise you that this won't make some readers too happy.

bronze_beaded_divider___design_png_by_jssanda-d6arcln

In a nutshell, "Genesis Ellipse ..." will be so different, to so many, that it'll more than likely stir up all sorts of whispers and controversy.

With that being said, here is a taste of "Genesis Ellipse ..." my current Work In Progress.

EXCERPT!

The Genesis of Time

Heaven

“I am truly sorry Ish,” Michael said with a sympathetic frown, then turned to Isha and with an empathic nod, finished, “Isha.”

“But, why Michael?” Ish questioned, heartbroken, “We did the best we could after our mistake. We tried, worked hard, were faithful ... TO HIM ... and to each other!”

“'Tis not my position to offer explanations or excuses. It is merely to be done.” Michael responded, not knowing what else to tell them, all the while knowing that their hearts were grieving.

“Michael, please? I beg of you, speak to Him. Have Him understand our position. I beg!” Isha continued.

“I cannot!” He finally said, firmly. “Every choice, bad or good, has its ramifications. In your case, your choice was the worst of all. You chose death, over HIM! The life you lived on earth is not nearly enough penalty to pay back your deception. This, is now your punishment!” Coldly he spoke, having ultimately reached his peak of mercy.

An eternity? An infinity of time apart? Jumping back and forth in time, never able to be together? Having no memory of each other, having to always and forever, feel the gap of emptiness and solitude? Not having love, not having each other? THAT, was their price to pay?

How could The Eternal call this fair justice?

What justice was there in this punishment? What clemency? He called Himself the All Merciful, yet cast this chastisement on them, KNOWING that they could not live without each other. Just as HE, Himself, had created them to live!

Oh, how they pained at the revelation of their misfortune to come. How, they hurt inside. They couldn't fathom it! More than that, they simply could not except it!

They held each other, finding solace in one another's arms—consolation and security. In the safety of their lovers embrace they stayed for a few moments following. Isha began to sob. Ish, tried to remain strong.

Then, they felt themselves being pulled apart. The oddity was not that they were being pulled apart by an invisible force. No. The oddity was that as they were drifting from each other, yet within one another's hands remained the pulsing everlasting heart of the other. Red, gleaming like a ruby on fire. Beating with life and force.

Ish, had Isha's spirit heart in his hand and Isha, had his. Then, just like that, they were gone from one another's side.

Oh, but what little would they truly know about their fated future...

Conjunction Junction

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODGA7ssL-6g]

Seems like now a days everyone in the Writing Community lives in Conjunction Junction. Meanwhile, here I am in Proper Prose Place.

You're probably wondering why I'm bringing this up. Trust me when I tell you that there is a indubitable reason.

Danielle-LaSota-post-separator

Within Conjunction Junction is a thriving community which started out small but is now the biggest place in the city. It's called And-a-topia!

Dear Follower ...

Untitled

As some of you might already know, I do lots of reading. Due to that, I've seen many new trends in the writing community and I have got to admit that the one that rubs me the wrong way most of all is the excessive use of conjunctions unnecessarily.

I'd like to present you all with exhibits A - C.

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Exhibit C

Now, you might think that I'm being nit picky here. Believe me, I'm not. Let's do the math, shall we?

Imagine estimating (as per Exhibit A) that every page in this book has anywhere between 10 & 13 "Ands". Now, let's say that the book is 300 pages long. We are looking at a total sum of 3,900 "Ands". On a 60,000 word book that about is about 1.5% of the book covered in just one word. When it comes to writing, that's not a small number.

Hold on ...

bitmoji1112884029

Having a moment of remembrance.

One time I read a book that had the word "And" show up in 1 sentence 7 times!!!

I was like ...

bitmoji49745536

Let me tell you a little bit about Conjunction Junction and And-a-topia, these are not places I want to be. Why? Because I don't want to walk down the street and have a bite to eat and take a look at the car and see the cat cross the street and watch a kite fly by and eat a lollipop and go shine my boots and ... well, I think you catch the drift.

Why can't we just all get along? Why can't we do things "then" as opposed to "and"?

As per Proper Prose Place here is the correct meaning of "Conjunctions":

Conjunctions:

A word used to connect clauses or sentences or to coordinate words in the same clause (e.g., and, but, if).

Example:

Little Joey had a cap and ball.

This is to say that Little Joey had BOTH a cap and ball.

So why is it that in some writers' works people are sitting and standing at the same time? Or better, grabbing something and letting it go at the same time. In my mind the word "and" means to do something together/simultaneously.

How can I grab his hand and let it go at the same time?

Not possible!

First you grab someone's hand, THEN you let it go!

Needless to say, that I'm a little peeved at the continuous use of the word "and" for everything. It's a pandemic ... no wait, it's an "AND-DEMIC"!!

bitmoji1410210000

Danielle-LaSota-post-separator

So I've decided to give whoever reads this a little lesson on Conjunction Usage.

Here we go ...

One of the problems is that the repetitious use of conjunctions will cause excessive emphasis on unimportant objects, places, and things. This in turn causes curiosity on the insignificant things leaving the reader wanting to know more about it.

The aim is to get the reader invested in the essential aspects of the story. If they become too interested in the other details then they will lose interest in the story altogether because it will ultimately become too confusing for them.

Here is what I mean …

600full-next-artwork

Bonny Sue is telling a story about apples. Suddenly, in the midst of telling her reader about the apples, she becomes more engulfed in giving the reader the details of the field in which the apples were planted. Yet, the aim of the story is to tell the reader what the best apples are for making Apple Pie.

However, if Bonny Sue, starts telling the reader about the field, and the orange trees in the grove next to the apple field, and the immigrants that came to farm, and the soil of the oranges trees, what happens?

That’s right, the story has veered off subject causing the reader to now want to know more about the immigrant, the soil, the orange grove, and so on.

Yet, if Bonny Sue, simply skims over the hard working immigrant, and the orange field next to the apple field without giving too much away, then reverting back to the initial subject of the story, she will keep their interest. Moreover, she will have stayed on track with the progression of her story.

Here is the key:

The key is that the word "and" imply inclusion. So if the implication of inclusion is being made, then the reader is led to believe that those things included are of importance.

Danielle-LaSota-post-separator

The moral of the story:

Stay away from Conjunction Junction as well as And-a-topia before you find yourself not writing and not selling and not reaching readers and not getting good reviews and .... well, you know what I mean.
